The Peaks Island Children’s Workshop nurtures the growth and development of happy, healthy children in a creative learning environment, within our families and within our community.

The PICW is a child care and preschool facility which has been an integral part of the Peaks Island community since its founding in 1972 under the auspices of Catholic Charities Maine. Since 2000, the Workshop has been its own registered 501(c)3 non-profit run by a volunteer board of directors.

The PICW serves children year-round in ages ranging from six weeks through eleven years using Creative Curriculum and inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Our staff and involved community members are dedicated to our children’s wellness, happiness and growth. The classroom is set up to promote independence, ensure safety, and foster learning that utilizes a variety of materials, interactions and opportunities for creative experiences. The island community and natural habitat are integrated into the program to widen the child’s educational world.

PICW is an accredited program, licensed by the State of Maine Department of Human Services, and qualifies as a Step 4 on Maine's Quality for ME rating scale. The PICW is proud to be a partnering agency with the United Way. Please contact us for further information about our organization, programs and availability.
